Question:
I am replacing the decking on my 26foot flat bed gooseneck trailer. I am using 2x8 Douglas fir. The cross members are channel iron, with the TFX250 screws be appropriate fasteners for this applicaiton and would they be self drilling into the channel iron cross members?

Expert Reply:
You can use the 2-1/2 Inch Long Torx Screw, # TFX250, to attach your boards to your trailer frame. These screws do require a 7/32 inch pilot hole to be drilled through the board and trailer frame. Once the pilot hole is drilled, the screws will tap the threads securing the board to the trailer frame, but they will not tap their own hole in your trailer frame.
