Is It Normal For One Shackle To Point Up and The Other Point Down After Replacing Equalizers?

Question:
I am trying to figure out something on my car trailers suspension. The equalizer, the shackles on the front are not in the same orientation as the rear. From what I can tell they should be. I have installed new equalizers and bushings and bolts. When the axle is in the air the shackles are point down. This is the orientation I believe they should stay in? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The shackles on your equalizers should be pointing up when the trailer is under its weight on the ground, and will only point down like you mentioned when the trailer is in the air and the axles are off the ground.
It is pretty common for one side of the equalizer to pop up before the other side and to get the other side to pop up you will want to pull the trailer over a bump. We have found a speed bump works the best if you have one near you.
