Do I Need an Aluminum or Steel Hitch Ball With my Andersen Rapid Hitch

Updated 04/30/2021 | Published 04/28/2021

Question:

Other than weight of the actual balls, what are they advantages or disadvantages of the aluminum balls vs the steel balls? Is there a risk of the steel balls becoming seized in the aluminum housing? Thanks!

There isn't any risk in using a steel hitch ball with an aluminum coupler and getting galvanic corrosion, so that won't be a concern. If you compare the # AM3435 (aluminum) and # AM3424 (steel) you'll notice that steel is less expensive and they are rated for the same capacities, but the aluminum ball comes with a greaseless cap so you won't have to worry about messy grease. Aside from this, the aluminum is just a bit lighter and won't corrode as easily since the chrome plating will deteriorate over time.
