Question:

I have a trailer with dexter axles that I need to know the weight capacity of. They have 12” drums,6 bolt.the numbers I see on the hub are 8-201 and 2ACMG.

I would be happy to help you find the axle rating of your Dexter Axles, but the two numbers you provided do not cross reference to a specific hub but there are a few other ways.

The only way to get the exact axle rating is to look on the axle tag located on the center of the axle tube. There should be an axle rating and serial number on the tag. If the axle rating is missing but the serial number is there just let me know and I can identify the axle for you.

If the axle tag is missing all together you will need to remove one of the hubs and look for the numbers stamped on the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649. Bearing combinations are different for the different axle ratings, but it usually is for a range of weights and not a specific weight.

Lastly if there is still a GVWR sticker on the trailer you can divide the GVWR of the trailer by the number of axles and this will give you a rough idea of the rating of the axles.

Since you mentioned that the trailer uses 12" brakes it is likely a 5200-7000lb axle.
