How Does Breakaway Switch With Two Black Wires Get Wired To Trailer?
Updated 04/21/2021 | Published 04/16/2021 >
Question:
I have 2 questions. the first is does my battery need to be charged in order to check power to my switch and my breaks? 2nd question is does it matter how the wires on my switch are connected? the switch that was originally on my camper was color coded and the wires on the new switch are both black. does it matter?

The battery for your breakaway switch will need to have at least a partial charge for you to verify that the system is working correctly.
Breakaway kits like the Tekonsha Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - Top Load # 50-85-313 also use a switch with two black wires, and either wire can be connected to the trailer brakes or the breakaway battery.
I included a video of the # 50-85-313 for you to take a look at.
