Question:
Can I use a round linch pin to secure the towing hitch pin attached to my trailer hitch? Normally the towing hitch pin is held in place by an R pin. Will a round linch pin do the same job? Is it strong enough? Is there any possibility it could slip out while Im towing? Im just looking for something easier than an R pin to put on and take off. Thanks

We have a really cool solution for you, but you should not use a round linchpin as they are not designed for use with a standard 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. So you'll want to go with a standard hitch pin, and we do have an option for one that is super simple to use and doesn't have an R-clip like the Curt Pin & Clip # C21510, for example.
In fact, it doesn't use a clip at all, and the part I'm referring to is from Master Lock, and it's called a Pivot Lock, which is available in either stainless steel or chrome:
- Stainless Steel: Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitch # ML1465DAT
- Chrome: Master Lock Pivot Lock Hitch Pin for 2" Hitch # ML1495DAT
The way it works is pretty ingenious; if you take a look at the photo you can see the barrel end of the hitch pin, and all you do is slide the pin in your hitch and pull the barrel down. It is spring-loaded so it will stay exactly in place, and you won't ever again have to worry about using a clip.
I have added a link below to a video demonstration of this pin I recommend checking out so you can see exactly how it works.
