Will The Americana Trailer Wheel Center Cap Item # AM90195 Trap Water
Updated 04/08/2021 | Published 04/06/2021 >
Question:
I bought these, but now afraid to use them. First the Bearcat wheels look great with out them. But my concern is that I have some hub that are permanently sealed. I will be using my boat 95 of the time in salt water. Will these caps trap water. I wash my boat down well after each use and wonder how to clean behind the caps. I guess the end cap can be removed, but seems that would wear the cap out over time. How to those in salt water deal with these hub caps?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Americana Trailer Wheel Center Cap Item # AM90195 can get a little water inside but, when the wheel is tightened against the hub, it seals fairly well, the water entry should be minimal, and should drain back out. The plug can be removed fairly easily if you wanted to rinse the inside of cap.
An idea that may help keep any water out is to add a small piece of a foam tape around the edge before placing it on the hub. As the wheel is tightened down the tape will seal and gaps between the cap and hub face.
