Question:
Im looking for some brake pads for a dexter 8-201 trailer hub. I have no idea if they are self adjusting or what size. Can you tell me what i have and point in the right direction for parts?

Expert Reply:
Dexter has discontinued the K71-048-00 brake linings (pad) for the 8-201 hub, but the # AKBRKR-S-12 would be a suitable substitute. The manual adjust brake assembly uses the same shoes for the right and the left brake assembly.
We don't offer replacement pads if your brakes are self-adjusting. If that's the case, you'd need to replace the brake assemblies with part # AKEBRK-7-SA which includes the left and the right brake assembly. I typically recommend self-adjusting brakes because they'll consistently provide the best braking performance. If you purchase new assemblies, you'll have all new springs and parts so you know you'll have reliable brakes for years to come.
