If your axle was produced after April 2001 there should be a lot number on the axle. Go to the rear side of the axle beam about 18 inches from the curb side of the vehicle (passenger side). If you see "DEXTER AXLE" the lot number should be directly below that. If it is somewhat rusty, grab some sand paper to clear things up, wipe it down and then you can use chalk or smear paint on it to help reveal the numbers. Once you find the numbers we can identify exactly what axle you have.
If you can not find the serial number you can get the casting number off the brake drums. The casting number starts with the digit “8” and is followed by three more digits. This casting number will tell us what size brakes, what size bearings and seal and what wheel bolt mounting pattern. Most likely you will have to remove a wheel to read the casting number on the brake drum. This is more useful when wanting to find a disc break conversion kit.
