Should an Extra Bolt be Used to Secure Reese Weight Distribution Lift Brackets on a C-Channel Frame
Updated 01/21/2013 | Published 01/19/2013 >
Question:
When I was reading the installation instructions is says an extra bold should be used on the bracket for a Jayco trailer. I have a Prowler trailer and it has C channel frames. Is this extra bolts really require for C frames? or what is the reason for having this extra bolt hole in the center of the bracket? My trailer weights 8900 lbs and have a TW of around 900 Lbs. Also I do have the anti sway kit. Thanks for the help Love the site!

If your weight distribution system uses the lift brackets, like # RP21501, or # 58392, my contact at Reese stated that you can use it on a trailer with a C-channel frame. The 3 inch bolt is long enough that it will work with C-channel frames. So provided that it has a weight capacity that can handle your trailer, you will be able to use the weight distribution system. Given the weight of your trailer it would be recommended to use an extra bolt.
Since the set screw is normally the only thing holding the bracket to the trailer frame, you would have to put a carriage bolt through one of the front holes of the lift bracket which would require drilling it the trailer frame.
