Question:

I have a 2001 Malibu Ski Boat, i think the weight of the boat empty is about 2200 pounds, i am trying to replace the winch but not sure on the size. trailer has carpet runners, but usually only use the winch for about 3-4 feet to snug boat on trailer and secure boat on trailer while towing.

Although the # 348776 you'd looked at would do the job, going with a winch that has a higher capacity than what you actually need is a good idea. The winch won't need to work as hard. With this in mind, I'd recommend the # 315-W2000D from JIF Marine. The extra capacity will be helpful when you add the weight of the cargo like skis, fishing gear, coolers and gas.

Normally, with a short winching distance, you could get by with a 1100-1500 lb capacity winch, but going with a winch with a capacity closer to the weight of the boat such as the one I recommended means the winch will last longer (as will your arm)!
