How to Find GVWR and Tongue Weight of 1986 Layton Celebrity Travel Trailer

Question:

We own and have owned this Layton celebrity 34’ camper for years and have never quite know the weights on it. I believe it is a 1986. I would like to know the gross weight as well as the tongue weight on it please.

I may have a solution for you to find the tongue weight, but we don't have a database that tells us that information, but in most cases, there is a spec plate/sticker somewhere on the trailer chassis with a GVWR that can get you started. If you're looking for the dry tongue weight, it also would likely be listed on this plate/sticker but you could also use a tongue weight scale like the Etrailer # 99044 to determine this. When fully loaded, you'll want to keep the tongue weight to 10-15% of the fully loaded trailer weight. You could also check the axles to see what identifying information is on there; they're likely going to have the capacity listed on them which would help get you a rough GVWR- you'd take the axle capacity, multiply the number of axles and then add 10% to that number to get a rough GVWR of the trailer.

You also may be able to use the VIN and use a website that identifies your VIN to determine this information, but I'm not sure that they're able to pull information on trailers past 20 years old.
