Any Leaf Springs Designed for Boat Trailers Used in Salt Water

Question:
Are there any suspension springs made for use on boat trailers that are used in salt water? Thanks in advance!

Expert Reply:
They do not have leaf springs that are specifically designed for boat trailers that are used in salt water. Since the leaf springs will flex there is no kind of plating or coating that will stay attached to the spring. Also, the process that is used to plate or coat a part can use high temperatures that could cause premature failure of the spring.
As long as you get the leaf springs with the correct weight rating and the correct measurements to fit your boat trailer you should have no problem using them in salt water.
It is recommended when using your boat trailer in salt water to spray off the trailer immediately after use in salt water to help protect and prolong the parts on the trailer. Some people have used a spray rust inhibitor to slow down any rust from forming on the parts. I would recommend to check with other boaters that boat in salt water and see what they might be using, if anything, to help with protecting their boat trailer suspension.
