How To Fix Trailer Leaning To One Side

Updated 08/05/2020 | Published 08/03/2020

Question:

I have a toy hauler fifth wheel with tandem 7k lippert axles. Trailer leans to street side. Loaded axle weight is 13800, with the street side being about 1k heavier than curb side. I replaced leafs and added sumo springs. Trailer is leaning again. I will replace the springs.... again. Are the timbrens stiffer than the sumos? The sumos claimed to help with off center loads, in my situation, they did not , although they did help the trailer pull smoother. With the weight being right at capacity, whould stepping up to the timbren s for 10k axles create a harsh ride on the trailer?

Expert Reply:

It is not uncommon for a trailer to lean to one side even from the factory as heavier appliances can be on the same side or there could be multiple slides on that side. In order to try and combat this issue there are options from SumoSprings and Timbren. The SumoSprings are made of a much softer material than the Timbrens so although they are better at retaining ride quality, they could still allow the trailer to lean. Therefore, the Timbrens would be the best option for leaning. I recommend the Timbren Trailer Suspension Enhancement System part # TTRA1032 as it should give you the leveling you need without making the ride too harsh. The 10K system would be a bit much.
