Question:
I have a 25 ft baja weighing 5600 lbs. I want to replace my winch on my trailer that is a float on trailer. Do I need to get a 5600 or 6000 lb winch or can I use a smaller one.

Generally speaking, a good rule of thumb is that the capacity of your winch should be half the weight of your boat. If you are winching for a short distance, and you have good rollers on your trailer, you can get by with a winch capacity that is 1/3 the weight of the boat. On the other hand, if you are winching long distances with bare wooden bunks with no carpet or rollers at all, you will need a winch capacity equal to the weight of your boat.
The Fulton # F142430 you referenced should be a good choice for you. Its 3700 lb capacity represents just above 75 percent of the weight of your boat, and should provide some extra capacity that is better to have and not need than need and not have.
The 7/32 inch diameter winch cable is sold separately as part # FWC7500100.
