Using blue ox patriot system. Do we need to disconnect any cables from the battery of the towed vehicle to utilize battery backup

Is the vehicle battery dying when using the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR or the internal battery of the Patriot? Most likely it's the vehicle battery which we have the Roadmaster kit part # RM-156-25 which will keep the battery topped off while the vehicle is being flat towed.
