what is the smallest length you can cut this down to? my door is only 3.6ft wide.

The Conventional Ramp Door Spring for 6' Wide Enclosed Trailer part # 362SA6 can be cut down to fit a 38" wide doorway. Therefore, it would indeed work with a roughly 3-1/2' wide doorway.
