Question:
I have a Curt Spectrum from etrailer and am installing it into my new 2020 Hyundai Santa fe. The Santa fe has the factory towing package which includes a 4 flat connector. My trailer has electric brakes. I have a 7-way round from you guys and have wired that up to the 4 flat and of course all the trailer lights work perfectly through the 7 way round. When installing the Curt Spectrum into the Santa fe I cannot find anywhere to connect to a brake switch signal input from the Santa fe to the spectrum. The Hyundai brake switch is not a simple old fashioned brake switch, it has 4 tiny 22 gauge wires coming out. Where should I connect the red brake signal wire from the Curt Spectrum in my Santa Fe? Can I use the Curt Spectrum in my new Santa fe? How do I get a brake signal into the spectrum? Happy to buy more parts of it will make it work.

Expert Reply:
To get that Curt Spectrum part # C51170 installed your best bet is to use a test light like the Circuit Tester part # PTW2992 to determine which wire has power when the brake pedal is pushed. With such thin wires I recommend using a straight pin into the plug area where the wires go so you do not damage the thin wiring. Once it is determined this you can use the Heat Shrink Connector part # DW05743-5 to make your splice.
