Troubleshooting OEM Brake Controller of 2021 Chevy Silverado not Working with 2021 Grand Design

Question:

I have a 2021 3500 Chev High Country with factory installed trailer brake controller. When I apply the brakes my message is 100 power but I know my brakes on my 2021 Grand Design with Dexter axles are not working. I have read when there may be a compatibility issue between the two. Your thoughts of a solution? Thanks for your input.

Hey Tim, it sounds like your Grand Design may have electric over hydraulic brakes but I am not totally sure. If that's true make sure your brake controller is put in hydraulic mode. Otherwise an aftermarket brake controller that was designed to be used with EOH brakes like the part # 90885 would be a great solution.

Hi Jameson I also have a 2021 Chevy 3500 High Country. I pull a 1996 sundowner horse trailer. We have nothing but problems with the Breaks not working. They are electrical. Dexter axels. Any suggestions?

@TraciK I'd need to hear more about the specific problems you are having to be able to troubleshoot better but most likely the problem is corrosion on the trailer wiring pins so I would try cleaning them first.

@JamesonC Thanks for the reply, as I have towed big rigs for many many years, I alway keep my connection in good condition and have my trailers maintained, bearings adjusted, and lubricated. I hook my trailer up to my older Chevy truck and they work amazing. This new Chevy has been nothing but a problem. We can’t run a camper or trailer of any kind together. All we get our constant break warning. It thinks the camper should have breaks! When they put the super hitch and wired it. They had nothing but problem with breaks. We finally came up with a solution to run the camper through the trailer. To stop the constant warning signs. We have called Chevy on countless occasions. We have had may pro look at it. All they do is throw up their hands , they don’t understand. It’s been a nightmare. So when I seen there may be a new controller I have a shimmer of hope. Chevy don’t give you a answer.
