Can Spring Bars On Old Draw-Tite Weight Distribution System Be Upgraded/Replaced
Updated 06/18/2020 | Published 06/16/2020 >
Question:
Have a new Camper and old weight distribution hitch with sway control. Hitch is a Draw-tite. The label on ball currently is up to 12,000 lbs. and can support 1,200 lbs. of toung weight, New camper has toung weight of 1075. Current hitch has trunnion spring with an 800 lb. rating. Can I just replace my 800 lb. trunnion springs on this hitch with say 1,200 lb springs? And do you sell replacement springs for Draw-tite hitches?

It is certainly possible to upgrade or downgrade for that matter the spring bars on a weight distribution system. That said, this is not an option for all weight distribution systems with the main factor being age and parts available.I am not sure which exact model you have as Reese/Draw-Tite make several and the correct springs bars will be based on said model. I can say that most of the newer systems are branded as Reese so there is a good chance the spring bars for the older Draw-Tite system are no longer available.
The best option we can offer with this in mind is a new complete system, the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System part # HT32218 is a great, complete, cost effective option.
