Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brakes Pulsing w/ OEM Brake Controller on 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500

Question:

I have a 33 foot gooseneck trailer with electric over hydraulic drum brakes I pull with. 2015 silverado 3500hd integrated brake controller. With a 10-17k load on the trailer, the brakes pulse or surge when slowing down. It is comparable to anti lock brakes on wet pavement, grabbing and releasing. I have verified the pump is working when brakes are applied and have replaced all the trailer brakes and hardware. Also bled the trailer brake system.

According to the folks at Hydrastar, what you have occurring is caused by the incompatibility of pre 2019 GM OEM brake controllers with the actuators used by electric over hydraulic braking systems which leads to inconsistent braking performance. This is a very common occurrence, and installing the # HBA-CAM module will prevent the pulsing you're experiencing.
