In order to install an electric brake controller on a 1989 GMC P3500 you will first need to start with an install kit as there are no wires present for this application. For this, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 along with the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit part # 119178KIT. Then, you can install any electric brake controller such as the Trailer Brake Controller part # TK63VR with the Brake Control Plug-In Harness part # 20127. This will give you everything you need to tow a trailer with electric brakes.
