Breakaway Battery Kit Needed for HydraStar Actuator on Triple Axle Trailer
Updated 04/15/2020 | Published 04/14/2020 >
Question:
I am looking for a breakaway kit for a triple axel boat trailer with an Hydrastar actuater. I understand that I need a 9AH battery. Your Dexter 34-285 is the only 9AH battery that I see. But the specs state that it is for a single or tandem axel unit. Any suggestions?

Unless your state requires a 9AH battery you actually only need a 5AH battery for a HydraStar EOH actuator. For example, the HydraStar # HBA16 which is rated for disc brakes is compatible with a 5AH breakaway battery kit.
Since you need a breakaway battery kit that is compatible with up to a triple axle trailer I recommend the Tekonsha # 50-85-313 because it has a built-in charger, is a top load so it's easy to read, comes with a test button, and is DOT compliant. I have attached an installation video of this kit for you to reference.
If you need something rated for at least 9AH that is compatible with a triple axle trailer then the Cargo Towing Solutions Trailer Breakaway Kit # HBA-EBA is what you're looking for as it has a 17AH battery. This is designed for the HydraStar XL actuator though which is like an all-in-one braking kit.
