Trailer Leaf Springs Feel Too Bouncy On Single Axle Trailer

Question:

Hi guys. I purchased a set of leaf spring clamps with accompanying bolts and nuts. The installation went fine, and the bounce was reduced. The leaf springs are a bit older, but not too bad. The thing is, in front of the axle, the leaf spring is fixed and there is no rocker where it fastens to the trailer frame. However, behind the axle there are two bolts, with maybe 5 inch extenders between the frame and where the leaf springs reconnect. So, when pressure is applied that joint pivots and the leaf springs are not as compressed as they could be. What is the best way to remove that mechanism can I weld those bolts stationary or is this a necessary feature? I have seen other trailers with a single axle in similar fashion to this trailer but they didnt have any pivot on either end of the leaf springs. Thanks for your time. Picture is enclosed. The issue with the leaf springs being too bouncy could be caused by a few different things. The first is that they are not properly rated for the weight of the trailer, they are worn down too far, or the trailer is being overloaded. Furthermore, a trailer can feel bouncy while unloaded as well. If you want to replace the leaf springs to try and remedy the situation then I will need to know the length from eye to eye while unloaded. If you don't want to replace the leaf springs you can add shock absorbers, the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kit part # LC281255 which will likely fix your issue.

In regards to a single axle trailer, on one side there will be a leaf spring that is attached directly to the leaf spring hanger and then on the other there will be a pair of shackle straps which connect the leaf spring to the leaf spring hanger. These shackle straps are needed for proper axle articulation so I do not recommend removing them.
