I have a 2017 Chevy traverse what size are the bolts used for bolt down the tow hitch under the vehicle

The install hardware that the Curt hitch part # 13424 that you referenced uses is M12-1.75 x 30mm. If you were looking for replace install hardware for this hitch we have that with the part number # RHK. On the product page for this you'd need to enter your hitch part number and then select Curt as the manufacturer for the hitch and you'd be set.

I’m trying to install this on my 2008 GMC Acadia but the bolts seem to be too thick and don’t screw in. Does it need a smaller bolt?

It's very likely that the factory weld nuts on the frame rails of your Acadia are just a bit rusted - this is actually a fairly common scenario, so much so that we have an article dedicated to it. I've linked it below. Just let me know if it doesn't help!
