Question:

I have a cushioned MorRyde 5th wheel hitch that I need to convert to a Goose neck. What Goose neck adapter will work for this...do I need additional parts to make it work. Will be pulling it with an 8 ft bed Dodge 3500 Thank you

Hello Greg. I do have a potential solution for you, but the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter # CAB-C5G that you were looking at will not work for this purpose. Reason being that this kind of adapter is not compatible with a cushioned pin box.

Your best option will be to replace your MORryde cushioned pin box with a goosebox like the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR. Keep in mind that these gooseboxes are not universal. If you can tell me the year, make and model of your 5th wheel that will help to narrow it down. I will also need to know the pin box number of the current pin box. For example, the # GY38FR replaces the Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes only. This 1621 pin box is quite common, but we will need you to confirm your pin box number. Send me that info here in the comments and I am happy to make a more accurate recommendation.

Thanks for the help jesse. This is a 2015 Keystone Montana 5th wheel . The Mor/ryde part number on the hitch is RPB72-1116 Let me know if this is enough info ...thank you Greg

@Gregory what is the floorplan or sub model of your Keystone Montana? The reason I ask is because I need to know the GVWR in order to select the correct goosebox. It sounds like you have the 1116 pin box which is also a common size. I just need to know the GVWR or floorplan to know exactly which one you need.

@JesseM The hitch on the unit says Max weight 19000 pnds. YThe unit is in another location but i looked at the tag yesterday and I believe the GVWR was 16000 pnds. This unit has 2 living room slides and a single bedroom slide. It has a couch in the very back and 1 along the far side towards the back (2 recliners. Kitchen is on the left when you walk in the door. It has an island and a double door fridge. Dining table is straight ahead when you walk in the door. The door is just left of the entrance up into the bedroom....bathroom is bewteen the door and the bedroom

Im a little confused...do both of these options work. The convert a ball is quite a bit cheaper but you seemed to indicate in your 1st email that it wasnt an option with the Mor/ryde cushioned 5th wheel hitch

@Gregory No, the convert a ball adapter is not an option since it is not compatible with cushioned pin boxes. Replacing your MORryde cushioned pin box with a goosebox is the only option. Let me know the floorplan or GVWR of your 5th wheel and I can tell you exactly which one you need.

Jesse, Getting a Redwood 412GK in May and wanting to convert the Morryde pinbox it comes with to the Gen Y. Pin Weight is advertised at 3,100 with approximated 3K in additional cargo capacity (2 pass-through storage between the triple axles and the Pin. Pulling with 24 Ram 3500 DRW using OEM Puck Gooseneck Ball. Looking for advise on Model of GenY and any additional parts I'll need for the pinbox swap. Thanks

@JasonO Hey Jason I can help with that, we will just need to determine what bolt pattern your MORryde pin box uses. The Lippert 1621 is one of the most common pin box sizes, but please confirm this is what you have. If so, the Correct Gen-Y goosebox is the following: - Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621HD - 30K GTW - 4.5K TW # GY38FR If you do not have the 1621 bolt pattern just let me know.

@JesseM the slippery metal tag has LCI item number is 2022111531 it doesn’t show a 4 digit model. The S/N with this metal tag is S011977660 and it has an RPO -0012382383 There is another SN plate nearby : 4YDFYWV29S9340028

Hi Jesse I have a 2022 heartland road warrior (15k dry weight) model 391. It currently has a morryde pin box. I recently put a flat bed on my 2024 ram 3500 mega cab dually (short bed) with a recessed goose neck ball. I would like to swap my pin dox to a goose box. What is my best choice given (a) it’s a morryde (b) megacabs have a short bed, and © its a flat bed with a recessed ball? Thanks. Jay

@JasonH Hello Jay. So the Gen-Y Gooseneck pin boxes like I mentioned above can be used with a recessed gooseneck ball as long as the hitch ball is within 1" from the top of the bed floor per Gen-Y. If you don't have this, it's possible that can obtain a high-rise hitch ball depending on what gooseneck you have. We still need to determine what model of MORryde pin box you have. The # GY38FR replaces the Lippert 1621 pin box, and would be correct based on your GVWR. There should be a sticker on your pin box with a model number and serial number. The folks at MORryde should be able to run that and tell you if you have the 1621 or whatever your bolt pattern is. They typically do not put this info on the sticker but it might be there. As far as turning clearance it really comes down to your specific truck and camper combination. You can use the following formula to determine your turning clearance. (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center (or gooseneck ball) to the truck cab B = Offset used (0" in you case) C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2

@Jason yes doing a 5th wheel hitch adapter like the Anderson Ultimate or Demco Recon is also an option. It will be less expensive than a new pin box, and you will be equipped to pull gooseneck or 5th wheels trailers with your truck.
