Would Go Power Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter # 34278157 Work to Power 13.5k BTU RV AC Unit
Published 02/19/2020 >
Question:
I have an elderly friend who cant move and deal with the weight of a portable 3000w+ generator that is needed to run the air conditioning unit on his RV. A smaller ~2000w generator he can deal with. I was considering a setup where the inverter would power the AC unit, then have a manual transfer switch and have the generator running to charge the batteries. He couldnt run very long like this depending on number of batteries since the generator cant keep up, but he doesnt need long air conditioning run times. The inverter running the AC unit would discharge the batteries, but when he turned the AC off, he could keep the generator running until the batteries were charged up again. By the specs, this inverter would appear to be able to run your typical 13500 BTU/hr AC unit. Can you confirm that? Do you have any other suggestions on how to solve this problem? Thank you in advance!

13,500 BTU AC units like the Advent part # ACM135C require 1,450 watts so the 3,000 watt inverter part # 34278157 that you referenced would easily cover that. Given the very specific limitations of your situation this would be the best solution overall. A solar panel kit might help too though like with the Go Power part # 34272628 which can provide 220 watts to help charge the batteries.
