Question:

Looking for a hitch 2 cargo carrier that will clear the exhaust outlets on my Volvo XC90 V8. Dont want to melt the bumper cover. Thanks

It sounds like a cargo carrier with an angled shank would be the best choice in your situation.

An angled shank would raise the cargo carrier anywhere from 2 to 3 inches above the receiver opening, and would place the carrier further above your exhaust outlets.

The etrailer Cargo Carrier, part # e98874 is a great looking carrier that measures 24 x 60. The angled shank would place the basket 19-1/2 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole in the receiver and would raise the carrier up 2 inches. An optional LED light kit # e98943-44LED is also available.

The Pro Series Carrier, part # 63153 measures 24x60, and has an angled shank that would place the carrier 12-3/4 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole and would raise the carrier by 2-1/2 inches. It uses light kits # 20174 or # 98174LED for an LED option.

The Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18151 measures 20x59, and features an angled shank that would place the basket 19 inches rearward of the hitch pin hole. The angled shank would provide 2 inches of elevation. There is not a specific light kit available for this carrier, but the etrailer License Plate and LED Tail Light Mounting Kit for Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Item # e98943-44LED could be made to work with some modification.

Of three models, I prefer the aesthetics of the etrailer model, and it would place the basket furthest away from your exhaust. The Pro Series is a good middle of the road option.
