Question:
Have a 2020 Subaru Outback XT with tow capacity of 3500. Would like to tow my popup. Comes with 4 way. Would like to a 7 way kit and use the Curt Echo wireless controller. Will this system work on my vehicle and what 7 way kit do you recommend I use? Thank you,

The Curt # C51180 Echo would indeed be compatible with your 2020 Outback, and of the available controllers it would be the easiest to install. The Echo plugs into a 7-way trailer connector and would use your smartphone (iOS 8.0+ or Android 4.4+) as the user controls. Since you already have a functioning 4 pole trailer connector, you'd just need the # ETBC7L install kit. The kit includes an adapter to convert your 4 pole into a 7-way and the hardware, wire and circuit breaker needed to connect the 7-way to the positive battery terminal in order to power the controller.
I've linked to a video explaining how the Echo works, as well as an installation video. The install shown is on a different vehicle, but the procedure would be similar for your Outback.

Hello Mike, Can we only connect the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter? In this case, can the wireless brake controller work? I do not care the trailer can not be charged by towing vehicle but want to avoid the challenge to wire the vehicle battery. If the trailer brake can work properly, I am OK enough. Thank you very much. Jian
