Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller that Wont go to Sleep

Question:
I had a Tekonsha P3 Prodigy Brake Controller installed on my 2002 Toyota Tacoma a year and a half ago. The device has worked fine until now. Now it stays on all the time and does not go to sleep. As a result, the battery is drawing down, yesterday to 11 volts and today at 9. There is no trailer attached to the truck at this time. The connector port on the back of the truck looks clean and undisturbed. The Tekonsha P3 Prodigy Brake Controller itself responds to commands via the menu but it never goes to sleep. What could be causing this problem?

It's possible that you would just need to do a reset on the P3 # 90195 by unplugging it for a few seconds and then plugging it back in. Most of the time that takes care of little quirks with brake controllers. Another possibility is that there's some corrosion on the brake controller output pin of your 7-way which is tricking the controller into thinking there is a trailer connected. You might try cleaning all of the pins of the 7-way too with some sandpaper.
