No Running Lights in 2011 Nissan Xterra With Factory Tow Package

Updated 01/06/2020 | Published 01/04/2020

Question:

My 2011 Nissan Xterra came with a factory installed towing package. I have brake lights and turn signals but no running lights. I read that the problem could be a circuit relay or fuse. Ive also seen the video on your website indicating that the package may not include the running light hardware. How would i know if the package has the proper hardware or if it justa fuse or relay? Please help! Thanks so much!

It sounds like your 2011 Nissan Xterra is missing a relay or the running light relay has gone bad. You can replace it with one of the blue relays form the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. The relay is normally located in the in-cab fuse panel. You will want to check your particular owner's manual to be sure of it's location. I am not exactly sure what you mean by running light hardware, but a missing relay is common with the Nissan Xterra from the factory even with the tow package so that is most likely your issue.

To be sure that this is your issue you can test the running light circuit of your trailer connector with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. The circuit should show power when the head lights on the vehicle are on. If you don't show power on the running light circuit the relay is probably missing. Normally the running light pin is the 11 o clock position.
