Question:
Can you tell me which brake package backing plate, shoes and magnet I need to order to replace the current package with the Dexter 8-285 drums? Thanks

Expert Reply:
The Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, part # 8-285-11UC3, that you have referenced, is the # 8-285-11 hub and integrated drum with the bearings, races, seal, cap, and lug nuts for a Dexter 8,000-lb axle.
The electric brake drum assembly that fits the 8-285 hub and integrated drum would be the Dexter Electric Brake Assembly-Left Hand, part # 23-434, for the left side and Dexter Electric Brake Assembly-Right Hand, part # 23-435. These brake assemblies are for use on 8,000-lb and 9,000-lb Dexter axles and use a 4-bolt brake mounting flange.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on electric drum brakes on a trailer.
