Hitch and Wiring Recommendation For 2019 Ford F-150 XLT

Updated 12/09/2019 | Published 12/08/2019

Question:

2019 Ford XLT V8 came with the hole on the flat portion of the bumper for installing the Hitch ball. Which Trailer hitch needs to be ordered so that the factory bumper is not used? I was planning in ordering the Curt Class IV Hitch Frame for vehicles W/O factory hitch frame. Will that work? Will a power harness need to be ordered?

The 2019 Ford F-150 XLT with the hitch ball bumper would in fact need the hitch that fits the trucks without a factory hitch. Fords that are considered with factory hitch will have an actual receiver tube instead of the bumper with built in hitch ball mount. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class IV hitch part # C26HR is a great choice. It is rated for 1,000 lb tongue weight and does not require drilling for installation. It is also a concealed cross tube design so the only portion of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver tube for a nice OEM look. I have attached an installation video for your reference.

If your truck came with a factory 7-way you can replace it with Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package part # C55774. If your truck did not come with a factory 7-way you will need part # C56413.

Since you plan on doing some towing you may consider the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If you are not sure how much rise/drop you may need in a ball mount to tow your trailer level, I recommend to take a look at the helpful article I have attached about how to figure the amount of rise or drop you may need.
