Great question Betty! The 2020 Chevy Colorado can be flat towed with all 4 wheels on the ground as long as the truck has a neutral and four wheel drive low setting.

Before flat towing, apply the parking brake, start the engine, shift the transfer case to neutral, leave the key in accessory and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Make sure the steering wheel is unlocked, depress the brake pedal and release the parking brake. Make sure the ignition stays in accessory to prevent the steering column to lock because if it locks while being flat towed it will cause damage.

To flat tow the Chevy Colorado you need a base plate, tow bar, tow bar wiring, safety cables, supplemental braking system and possibly a high low adapter. I have listed my recommendations below.

Base Plate- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit part # RM-523182-5 features a stream lined design for a clean look with easily removable arms.

Tow bar- Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain part # RM-522 features a tension release freedom latch to prevent binding when hooking up and unhooking the tow vehicle even on unlevel terrain.

Safety cables- Roadmaster 64" Single Hook, Straight Safety Cables part # RM-645.

Tow bar wiring- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit part # RM-15267 gives you a 6-way plug on the front of the Colorado and a coiled cord to connect the towed vehicle to the motor home's 7-way for a clean looking install.

Supplemental braking system- Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System part # SM99251 once installed the small actuating air cylinder stays attached to the brake pedal so you don't have to be remove the system when you want to drive the Colorado compared to the bulky recurring brake in a box options that sit on the floor board
(If you have air brakes on the motor home you will need part # SM99243)

Finally you may need a high low adapter to tow the vehicle level with the motor home. In order to know how much rise or drop it will require to tow level some measuring is required. I have attached a helpful article that helps you figure out which high low adapter may be needed and our selection of high low adapters.

I have a follow up question on flat towing my 2024 Chevy Colorado. I purchased a 2024 Chevy Colorado with 4 high and not the 4 low option. Does this mean I cannot flat tow my Colorado? My dealer said they researched this and told us it would be towable. I would appreciate some advice on this. Thank you Mark

@MarkJ Your 2024 Chevy Colorado cannot be flat towed (all four wheels on the ground) unless it is equipped with a two-speed transfer case, which includes 4WD Low (4L). If your truck only has 4HI (no 4LO), it likely has a single-speed transfer case, which does not support flat towing because it lacks the ability to shift into Neutral in the transfer case. In this case, you must use a trailer or dolly like part # RM-2050-1 to tow the vehicle without damaging the drivetrain.
