Bike Rack That Allows Rear Door to Open with E-Bikes Loaded on Jeep Wrangler
Published 11/08/2019 >
Question:
Is there an ebike rack that works on a 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK Rubicon that allows the rear door to swing open with bikes attached? Spare is 285/70/17 2 Ebikes, 55lbs ea. I am looking for a rack that would swing out (like a door) to fit this unless there is something that would fold down to allow the door to clear?

I have the perfect solution for you with the RockyMounts BackStage 2 Bike Platform Rack # RKY10002. The BackStage rack not only tilts down but it also swings away from the hitch. We tested this awesome rack on a similar 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a stock spare tire and we found that the rear door was able to fully swing open, even leaving some space between the tire and the closest mounted rack. I've included a link to the complete review video for you at the bottom of the page.
The # RKY10002 can hold up to two 60 pound electric bikes with 20 to 29 inch wheels and up to a 48 inch wheelbase. It comes loaded with features like the easy to use levers and hand knobs for a one-person operation. You can lock you rack to your Jeep as well as your e-bikes to your rack with the included hitch and cable locks.
The 285/70-17 spare on your 2012 Jeep JK is only about 1 inch wider than the standard stock spare tire so you should still be able to open your rear door and gain significant access to the cargo area.
A platform rack that folds flat would not allow you to keep the bikes on the rack, so the RockyMounts BackStage 2 is your best option.
