curt brake controller displays - - even if it is not plugged into a trailer

The Curt Triflex Trailer Brake Controller part # C24VV shows two dashes when it is not getting the 12V power that it needs. You want to check that the black wire is properly connected to the positive side of the vehicle's battery and the ground on the negative side. I have attached a diagram for you to test the connections of the Triflex.
