Question:

I have a friend who is considering a 2018 Ford Focus S model sedan no ACC for flat towing. Can you send me a list of the components she would need to install on either the motorhome or the Focus as well as the prices for the items? This is not a category of shopping that I am comfortable assisting her with and you folks have been very helpful with items, mostly wheels and tires, in the past. Thanks.

Thank you for all of the info! I'd be happy to help you compile a list of things needed to flat tow a 2018 Ford Focus Sedan (without Adaptive Cruise Control) for your friend.

For the '18 Ford Focus I recommend using the Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519324 along with the Demco Commander II Non-Binding Tow Bar # DM9511012, the Tow Bar Combo Kit # DM9523057, and the Battery Disconnect Switch Kit # RM-766. Then for a braking system I recommend the Air Force One # SM99243 if your friend's motorhome has air brakes or the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 if it has hydraulic brakes.

This gives them a great looking flat towing system that is easy to use and is built to work together. The tow bar is non-binding which makes it really easy to connect and disconnect even if they're on uneven ground. The combo kit comes with wiring that is permanently installed on their vehicle but is easy to connect when needed plus it includes locks and a cover for the tow bar. Finally either of the braking systems remain installed on the Focus but they stay out of the way when not flat towing and they are extremely easy to setup after the initial installation.

A lot of flat towing setups might require the use of a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level while towing a vehicle but the Demco tow bar has some built-in adjustments to help minimize the need for one.
