How Fast Can Trailer Tire in Size 5.70-8 Go
Updated 10/08/2019 | Published 10/07/2019 >
Question:
I recently bought a used 4x8foot utility trailer. The previous owner said he just put new tires on it. They are hi run 5.70-8. Dot r2a4 4pr with a max load of 715lbs at 50 psi. They look newer to me. So far I have only gone locally with it and 45mph or less. do you know What is the max speed rating for this tire? I want to know if I can take this on a highway at highway speeds or am I limited to say 45 or 55 mph? The rims are 4 lug. Is there a larger tire or 4 lug rim n tire combo I could use to be better on the highway?

Normally tire speed ratings are listed right after the tire size as a letter. For example the letter M represents and 81 mph speed rating. If you can't find a speed rating after the tire size the safe assumption will be that the tire is limited to 65 mph which used to be the standard speed for trailer tires.
I tried to find the speed rating of the Hi Run 5.70-8 that you have and only could find the listing "applicable for high speed driving" but not an actual rating. So based on our tires in this size you'd be find with 65 mph as this is the standard high speed rating for this size.
I attached a help article on trailer tires for you to check out as well.
