How To Lock Out Lippert Turning Point To Use Convert-A-Ball Adapter
Updated 10/01/2019 | Published 09/29/2019 >
Question:
I recently purchased the convert a ball 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter and installed it on my camper but after installing it I realized that my 5th wheel has a pivoting head made by Lippert Components to help control chucking. Everything works fine but when I pulled my camper I noticed that the convert a ball is towing at about a 15 to 20 degree angle and is not straight up and down due to the pivoting head on my pin box. I pulled it close to 150 miles and it seemed to pull fine. Is this safe to use this setup as it is or does the convert a ball only work with a fixed/rigid pin box?

It sounds like you have the Lippert Turning Point Pin box and to use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter part # CAB-C5G the pin box does need to be locked out or it won't tow the fifth wheel properly with the adapter. There are two bolts installed on the back of the pin box (if you have the turning point) that need to be torqued down to 200 ft lbs to lock the pin box.

It sounds like you have a Lippert Turning Point pin box. To use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter part # CAB-C5G with the turning point the pin box needs to be locked out. You would need to install two lock out bolts on the back of the unit. I have attached a photo from the instructions that show how to make the turning point a fixed pin box.
