Do not sell your bike rack yet! I recommend using the Class I 1-1/4" Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11527 on the 2018 Chevy Trax Premier. There are currently not any 2" hitches available for the Trax because the vehicle is not designed to a tow a trailer but is capable of carrying accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier.

Since your bike rack is designed for 2" hitch receiver openings you can use the Brophy Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter part # HT5R which will adapt the Class II 1-1/4" receiver opening to a 2" opening so you can carry the bike rack. However, the use of an adapter does cut the tongue weight rating of the hitch in half. The weight of both the rack and your mountain bike is considered tongue weight on the hitch. As long as the total weight of the bike and the rack is below 100 lbs then you can use the adapter. Also, you are limited to 2 bikes on a class I hitch, and will need to use the stabilizer strap # 18050. The stabilizer strap is required by the Curt hitch.

Since you are using an adapter it is a good idea to use Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches part # RM-061-125 to tighten up the space between the adapter and the hitch to prevent bouncing or rattling. I also recommend to protect your investment with a pin lock part # BD580405.

If the weight of the rack and the bike together is more than 100, your only option is to get a different bike rack. If you are not able to use the adapter let me know and I can recommend a new bike rack for you. I would need to know more about your mountain bike. Helpful information to know would be if the frame is carbon fiber and if it is a fat tire bike.
