I’m confused about which end goes where relative to the coupler—3.5 inch towards the tank or towards the pipe? Also, do I need to coat the inside of the coupler or pipe with any type of adhesive when I replace the coupler?

The Valterra Coupling for Rigid RV Sewer Pipe # F02-2104 is designed for attaching 3 inch ABS style pipes. The larger end is for attaching to a schedule 40 style ABS pipe and the smaller end for attaching to a thin walled style pipe. When making this attachment you do need to use ABS solvent cement like the part # 3447530889.
