Wiring Harness Install 2011 NIssan Xterra- Running Lights Do Not Work
Updated 09/07/2019 | Published 09/06/2019 >
Question:
I have a 2011 Nissan Xterra PRO4X and bought the 7 pin harness for my boat trailer. This plugs into the factory set up near the wheel well. Everything works fine except for the running and tail lights. Do I need a relay harness? Where and how do I install that? I believe the kit I bought came with these.

So the 7-way trailer connector for your 2011 Nissan Xterra, part # 118266 should have included the trailer connector, a wiring harness that plugs into the rear of the trailer connector, jumper relay harness and two blue and one brown relay.
The relays are plugged into the color coded connectors on the jumper harness and the harness itself is plugged into the 12-pin connector located behind the kick panel in the passenger side foot well as shown in the photo I've provided. It should be the only empty harness in that area.
As you've found, most but not all of the lighting features will work without the relays. I've linked you to an install video that will do a good job of showing you exactly where the relay harness plugs in.
