Question:

2010 Nissan Xterra. Hi I purchased a trailer socket plug in diagnostic device which told me that the power for the brake lights on my trailer are not getting power. I have a factory towing wire harness in my kick panel, but only one blue relay and one brown I saw a youtube video of etrailer installing two blue relays and one brown..wondering if I need that other relay? all was well until one day I noticed I have power to the running lights on my trailer and no power to the brake and turn signals. I have read a lot about the wire harness you sell for the kick panel. I have trailer relays and fuses under the hood of my car specifically for towing so I am wondering if that is normal for your customers? Do all the Xterras have towing relays/fuse under the hood in the factory box and still need your wiring harness in the kick panel?

Expert Reply:

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266 like all our harnesses for your Xterra has the 3 relays. The manufacturer doesn't offer the harness separately but you can get the three relays in the Curt Relay Kit # C57000. Sometimes these relays are under the hood and other times behind the dash near the steering column. It does sound like you are missing a relay, so you will want to check both of these locations. Nissan has had a few different factory configurations over the years, so you will need to check both locations. I've attached some videos to assist.
