when i turn on the switch for the hot water heater the light stays on the water heater does nothing the on light always went out after a few seconds even if it failed to light then i would just re start until i got fire is this the control board gone bad omron g5l 114p ps 36

It sounds like this has been an issue that started intermittently and has progressed to a full on malfunction. There are a couple of things that could be going on here; this could be as simple as the thermocoupler going bad, bad thermostat or the switch going out.
Before going to replace the control panel # AT91367 , I'd recommend replacing the thermocoupler with one of the Universal Fit Camco units like # CAM09273 (18" long). You could also install a new switch with part # AT91959 or a new thermostat # CAM08143 . These are all potential sources of the problem and definitely a more cost effective fix than jumping right to the control panel.
