No Brake Lights With Ignition Off Using Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit On a 2010 Honda Fit

Question:

I have installed the brake light relay per instructions and it is not working. I pulled the brake light fuse. I hooked the green wire to the output from the brake light switch green with silver bands and the black wire to the brake lights, I grounded to a good ground. Then I hooked up the red wire to a switched fuse, put both fuses in and put the brake light fuse back in. It appears the relay is not working. What are my options?

I spoke with Roadmaster about the issue you are having with the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-88400 on your 2010 Honda Fit. They informed me that if the brake lights do not illuminate while the brake pedal is pressed when the vehicle's ignition is off then the relay is wired incorrectly so you will need to review that portion of the installation instructions which I have attached for you. If you think the relay is bad then you can switch this out for just a standard automotive type. That said, if it were you would most likely heard a clicking sound therefore your issue is most likely a wiring mix up.

We installed the RM-88400 Brake Relay Kit into a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. With the key in the off position, the brake lights do not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. They do illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed with the key in the on position. Is this correct behavior?

The brake lights on your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited should function normal without being hooked up to your motorhome. When you are hooked up to your motorhome the brake lights should work without the Jeep key being in the on position because the online owner's manual states that your Jeep key should be off while flat towing.
