Question:

I am looking to tow a Malone Microsport and carry a cargo rack off the back of my Dodge Journey. Have used the Microsport for over a year with our set up no problem, but need to get some distance between the tow hitch receiver and the cargo rack. Would this work?

The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-8 is designed only for use with a tow bar that is pulling a vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground. It cannot be used for a towing a trailer and using an accessory cargo carrier because it is not able to handle the trailer tongue weight. Instead, you can use an adapter made for towing, such as the Malone # MPG544 along with an extra-long 2-inch ball mount like # EA40. You will need additional hitch pins # PC3 or anti-rattle hitch locks # 63232 to connect and secure all components.

Do note that like all hitch adapters this Malone adapter will reduce your hitch's rated capacity by 50%. The loss of hitch capacity results from the actual load on it being moved further away where it will exert more leverage. You should be fine with your carrier and Malone trailer since the 2-inch hitches made for the Dodge Journey have either a 3500-lb or 4000-lb capacity.
