Why is Travel Trailer Bouncing

Updated 06/12/2019 | Published 06/11/2019

Question:

I have a 29’ Travel Trailer we pull with a Chevy 1500. We have a load leveling hitch. This is our 2nd year towing, but this year the trailer seems to bounce much more than last. Trailer is loaded with same weight as last year so not sure why the change. Possible I have to adjust bracket placement or re-level? Does that change year over year?

You absolutely need to adjust a weight distribution hitch such as the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET each season when you are towing to ensure the best performance. If you are certain you have the properly rated system this should not be happening because bounce is usually caused by a lack of weight on the trailer.

I recommend trying to re-distribute the loaded weight of your trailer to ensure it is as equal as possible and also take a look at your suspension. It's possible there is an issue within your suspension that needs to be addressed and is causing the bounce you are experiencing.
