Troubleshooting Landing Gear on New Trailer Not Working At All
Updated 06/10/2019 | Published 06/09/2019 >
Question:
We just bought a 2019 forest river signature 5th wheel and have used it once. I went to hook it up today and the landing gear won’t work. Nothing works when I turn battery switch on or plug in trailer power cord to my pickup. No sound from landing gear motor or anything. If the battery is dead wouldn’t it still operate from the power cord plugged into my truck receptacle?

If the landing gear on your brand new Forest River Trailer is not working at all, either to extend or retract the legs, then most likely there is some kind of a power issue. I do recommend starting by making sure the battery is charged and in good condition. Typically the 12V circuit from a truck won't provide enough power to operate a bigger system like this so it's definitely possible that the battery is still the issue.
Also make sure your connections at the battery are secure and the ground wire is firmly attached to a clean bare metal surface that's free of any dirt or corrosion. Check for any pinched or exposed portions of wiring that need to be fixed/replaced.
If you still aren't able to resolve the issue please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
