Question:
I have a iPhone 6s Plus on Software Version 12.2 Is that compatible? The spec says 8.0 or newer. Is that the Model or the or the software version?

It's the software version not the phone model. The Echo brake controller, part # C51180, needs an Apple device that runs iOS 8.0 or higher. Your 6S Plus is just fine because 8.0 goes all the way back to 2014 on the iPhone 4S.
Likewise, Android devices need to be on version 4.4 known as KitKat. KitKat was released in 2013.
