How to Inspect Ground Circuit of Trailer Wiring
Updated 05/14/2019 | Published 05/12/2019 >
Question:
Hi! Ive ready some of your other posts and they stated to check your ground wire b/c the amperage may not be high enough. How do I check the ground wire and make it have significant enough amperage to use give the 7-way trailer signal and break lights. I have running lights Thank you!

Trailer lights ground in a couple ways. Sometimes they ground through the mounting hardware which basically means it's ground through the trailer frame to the ground wire of the 7-way connector or they lights are grounded with a wire that runs back to the trailer connector directly. Since the stoplight/turn signals aren't working it's most likely related to the main ground harness of the trailer connector. On the connector in the 5:00 pin position is the ground circuit. Make sure it's connected to either the lights directly or ran cleanly to the frame of the trailer directly.
I also attached a couple help articles on trailer wiring troubleshooting for you to check out as well.
